Communities2Gether: Diaspora communities rebuilding hope for our most affected Southern communities

Communities2Gether is a UIA initiative restoring and rebuilding lives across 10 Gaza Envelope communities devastated by the October 7 attacks – Be’eri, Ein Habesor, Kfar Aza, Magen, Mivtachim, Nir Am, Pri Gan, Shlomit, Yated and Yesha.

Launched in 2024 with Keren Hayesod, The Jewish Agency, and Tekuma, this three-year, community-led program delivers trauma support, leadership development, and infrastructure recovery tailored to each town’s specific needs.

In the wake of October 7th

In the aftermath, of October 7 the trauma lingered. Families were displaced. Once thriving communities felt permanently scarred. But now hope is taking root again, this time thanks to Jewish diaspora communities via Keren Hayesod-UIA’s Communities2Gether initiative. This three-year plan pairs global generosity with on-the-ground leadership and action.

A direct response

Launched in 2024 with The Jewish Agency, local councils and the government’s Tekuma Authority, Communities2Gether supports ten hard-hit kibbutzim and moshavim. Each community receives exactly what it needs – from emotional and trauma recovery support through to physical rebuilding and re-staffing.

Recovery on every level

Emotional recovery is central. Processing circles for emergency teams, resilience workshops for women, weekly therapy sessions and senior-friendly classes in cooking, photography and psychology provide safe spaces to talk, create and heal. [Community-wide moments like Pri Gan’s reunion with Shlomit’s rescue team and Yated’s “Miracle” candle-lighting bring people together and rebuild resilience. ]

Rebuilding our youth

Young people are receiving dedicated support. Education and youth coordinators lead informal programs, surf therapy with HaGal Sheli, and structured emotional care. [In Be’eri, a full-time social worker, five new youth mentors and 65 trained teachers supported 300 students.] This model ensures that every family, teen and elder in every town is not only supported but reconnected. Community by community, we are rebuilding what was broken – and strengthening the very core of Am Yisrael.

The Impact:

Communities2Gether is already helping thousands begin their recovery. With programs running in 10 towns and kibbutzim, the impact is visible in classrooms, clinics and ‘cheder ochels’ (dining halls) once again full of life.
