Our Concrete Promise for the People of Israel

As we prepare to mark the one year anniversary of October 7- and the war approaches its twelfth month- the security situation in the south of Israel continues to intensify. Residents are in a constant state of alert and must take precautions to safeguard themselves and their

Yad Mordechai, a kibbutz with a population of about 800, is located 10 km south of Ashkelon close to the border with the Gaza Strip. The kibbutz is currently in the process of completing the construction of a Technological Centre for primary school students in the local school, ‘The Shikma Institute’. The Centre is designed to serve 200 students from the northern Gaza Envelope region, and the operation of the school is dependent on ensuring the children’s safety. 

The Urgent Need: Immediate Shelter for Primary School Children in Yad Mordechai

Currently, there are only 2 bomb shelters within the grounds of the Shikma Institute’s primary school, each holding approximately 30 students (60 in total). During a red alert, the remaining 140 children (plus staff) have 15 seconds to find alternative shelter. Many students must resort to lying on the ground (per directive from the Home Front Command) as proper shelter can not be found in time. 

The Solution: New Mobile Bomb Shelters

The deployment of additional mobile protective shelters will enable students and staff at the primary school to take cover in seconds. This will also increase their sense of security in times of emergency and allow them to carry on with their daily routines.

These high holidays the Victorian Jewish community will unite to deliver these concrete mobile bomb shelters and then we will pray that they should never be needed. We hope you will join our Concrete Promise to the people of Israel this high holidays.
